Ruth is a picture of you and me, it’s worth taking a closer look at her. She was looking for kindness. As an outsider she may have been lonely, perhaps she missed her family back in Moab, maybe she was regretting the move to Bethlehem, possibly the void in her heart was overwhelming. Whatever the reason, Ruth felt the need to seek out kindness. She became restless in her current situation. Ruth’s response to Boaz’s grace and kindness was gratitude. She knew she didn’t deserve his kindness; there was nothing she had done or nothing she would do that justified Boaz’s treatment of her. Ruth accepted the kindness offered. What action did her gratitude produce? Obedience. At mealtime Boaz called to her, “Come over here, and help yourself to some food (Ruth 2:8). Boaz instructed Ruth to glean in his field only. There were other fields. The Bible records that Ruth ended up in Boaz’s field. There are always options when it comes to having your needs met. You are free to chase down many alternatives in your pursuit of kindness. You can look to many sources to meet your needs. Jesus tells you, stay in My field. You will find all you need here. Then He expects you to trust that is true.
